DALLAS (SMU) - Coming on the heels of the team's second consecutive Conference USA Championship, the SMU Cross Country team has moved up to the No. 1 ranking in the South Central Region, voted on by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Aside from being the top team in its region, the Mustangs are also the No. 25 team in the country.

On Saturday, the team earned its second straight C-USA title, thanks to three runners finishing in the top-five and five runners coming in the top-10. Silje Fjortoft led the way, finishing second with a time of 18:01.6. Freshmen Sara Sjokvist and Veronika Blom crossed the finish line at 18:11.8 and 18:16.3, placing third and fourth, respectively. Mary Alenbratt, and Kristine Eikrem-Engset rounded out the top ten.

Both rankings are season highs for the Mustangs, and the group will aim to go even higher when it returns to action on Nov. 14 at the NCAA South Central Regional in Waco.
