IRVING (C-USA/SMU) - SMU's Simone du Toit has been named the Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced today. du Toit posted the second-longest throw in the nation this season with a winning toss of 57.35m (188-02.0) in the discus at the Mean Green Twilight last Thursday.

A freshman from Johannesburg, South Africa, du Toit established a school and stadium record and surpassed the NCAA Regional standard with the toss. SMU's old record of 56.78m (186-03.0) was set back in 1999 by Grete Etholm. This is du Toit's first career weekly honor.

Up next for du Toit and the Mustangs are the Conference USA Championships, May 14-16, in Tulsa, Okla.
