Lauren Longbotham-Meisner begins her fifth season with the SMU women's tennis program, and her second season as head coach. In her inaugural season as head coach, she helped guide the Mustangs to a 19-5 season a top40 national ranking and saw two starters nationally ranked in doubles and singles and four players named to the Conference USA All Conference Team. In 2005-2006, Longbotham-Meisner helped guide the Mustangs to the Conference USA Championship finals and a top 40 team ranking. During her first three seasons on the Hilltop as an assistant coach, Longbotham-Meisner was responsible for organizing team practices, player development, scheduling, recruiting and team building. Since her arrival on the Hilltop, the Mustangs have finished each season nationally ranked achieving their highest ranking at No. 33. Her efforts are helping SMU become recognized as a top nationallyranked program. "I am extremely excited to be able to continue my work at SMU as the head women's tennis coach and to be given the opportunity to lead this team to the next level of college tennis," said Longbotham-Meisner. "SMU has a great tradition of winning and I am honored to be a part of the SMU family. Since my arrival at SMU, I have had the opportunity to see such huge growth in the program in such a short time and our goals are to continue to build SMU women's tennis as a nationally-recognized tennis program. The students that we bring to SMU will not only be able to play for a top tennis program, but they will leave SMU with a great education and life experiences that will help them in their endeavors after college." In her first season with the Mustangs as an assistant coach, Longbotham-Meisner helped lead the team to its best overall season since 1988. The team earned its first NCAA Tournament bid since 1996 and advanced to the round of 32 for the first time since 1988. In 2003-04, the squad also achieved its highest ranking since 1989, finishing the season at No. 43 in the nation. The team played in the championship match at the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships and ended the season with an overall record of 18-11 The 2004-05 Mustang squad finished the season with a 16-10 record and made the semifinals of the WAC Championships, falling to three-time defending champion Fresno State. In 2006, the Mustangs rode a 12-match win streak at the end of the season, marking the longest winning streak since the 2000-01 season.She has coached 12 all-conference players and seven players who have been nationally ranked. As a head coach, Longbotham-Meisner holds a 19-5 record and has posted an overall record of 72-32 as a coach at SMU. Along with her duties at SMU, Longbotham-Meisner serves as the Conference USA Women's Tennis Representative, a position that she was voted by her fellow C-USA coaching peers to hold. She has also served as a USPTA certified teaching professional at Brookhaven Tennis Academy in Dallas, where she worked with nationally-ranked junior players and junior traveling teams during the summer. Before arriving to Dallas and SMU, Longbotham-Meisner spent a semester as volunteer assistant coach for her alma mater, Louisiana Tech in Ruston, La. She lettered four years as a member of the Lady Techster tennis team from 1999-2003. Serving as team captain for two years, Longbotham-Meisner was a mainstay in the Louisiana Tech's lineup, both in singles and doubles play, and was named the team's Singles Player of the Year in 2000, recording the best singles record on the team. A Dean's List member at Louisiana Tech, Longbotham-Meisner was named to the conference All-Academic Team each of her four years in Ruston, La. She also served as secretary of the Student Athletic Advisory Board from 2000-2003 and was a member of the academic honor society Gamma Beta Phi. While at Louisiana Tech, Longbotham-Meisner served as a student representative on the President's Student Advancement Team from 2000-2003 where she organized and hosted social events for the Louisiana Tech Alumni Association. Longbotham-Meisner spent four summers serving as a head women's counselor at Texas A&M's summer camps. A native of Groesbeck, Texas, Longbotham-Meisner grew up on a tennis court watching her father coach the local high school team and fell in love with the sport at a very young age. Longbotham-Meisner was a three-time state doubles champion from 1997 to 1999 and was named Groesbeck High Female Athlete of the Year in 1999. Longbotham-Meisner received her Bachelor of Science degree in education from Louisiana Tech in 2003 and is currently working on her masters of education degree at SMU. She is married to Mr. Tod Meisner, Assistant Director of Media Relations for Conference USA.
