DALLAS (SMU) - The No. 18 SMU women's swim team will welcome in Rice and Houston this weekend in a pair of dual meets, beginning Friday at 6 p.m., at Joe Perkins Natatorium. The weekend will give fans the chance to see the Mustangs compete against two of the top-tier schools in Conference USA this season.
Both meets are scheduled to be 13-event programs. Friday's meet against Rice will feature the 200 meter medley relay featuring Gabrielle Soza, Devon Callaghan, Denisa Smolenova and Ana Santos. It is an event that SMU is hoping to qualify for the NCAA Championships later this season.
The diving events will have two vastly different feels to them on Friday and Saturday. Rice is currently in the middle of constructing a diving facility, so it will be only SMU divers competing on Friday. Saturday however, is a different story as Houston will bring in some of the strongest competition the Mustang divers will see all year. Audra Egenolf leads the way for the divers, as she was one of six All-Americans for SMU a year ago.
"We are looking forward to racing two of the top teams in Conference USA," head coach Steve Collins said. "As we get closer to the Conference USA Championship, we can use this opportunity to focus in and see what we need to do to be successful at the event."
Saturday's meet against Houston will begin at 1 p.m. Results of both meets will be available immediately following the conclusion of competition on smumustangs.com.
