COMMUNITY OUTREACH

One of the most important aspects of being a student-athlete is to grow and develop into contributive people that are compassionate towards others and helpful to those less fortunate and to also recognize the value in giving back to the community. To that end the Mustang rowers are very involved in outside activities where giving back is held in high regard.

The Mustang rowing team is active in many community outreach programs. We often have several athletes participate in the "Milk and Cookies with the Mustangs" where current student athletes read to children at a local Dallas Public Library.

We have been involved in Arts and Crafts at the Scottish Rite Hospital as well as the Martin Luther King Jr. Parade.

Because SMU rowers use White Rock Lake more than any other organization, we feel it is important to protect our environment and keep it as clean as possible for all to enjoy, we participate in White Rock Lake clean-ups. Our motor boats are volunteered to help clean up the shore line that can't be accessed by land and rowers often clean up areas in the middle of the lake when necessary.

With the new boathouse facility, the rowing program will be running camps during the summer months. The summer camps will emphasize the benefits of community developed through sport. The majority of the camps will focus heavily on underprivledged and inner-city youth programs.
