DALLAS (SMU) - On Sunday, Feb. 14, fans of all ages are invited to attend SMU's National Girls and Women in Sports Day that will feature a Fan Fest with SMU student-athletes prior to the women's basketball game against Houston. The pregame activities will be held in the Crum Center from 12:15 p.m. until 1:30 p.m., with the basketball game following at 2 p.m. in Moody Coliseum.

The Mustangs are also teaming up with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association to take part in the "PinkZone" initiative, a program designed to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research. Donations to SMU's "PinkZone" campaign go directly to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.

Admission to the Fan Fest is included in the ticket price for the game, and anyone wearing pink will receive a special five-dollar rate. The Fan Fest will feature student-athletes from the women's basketball, volleyball, track, swimming, golf, soccer, and the cheer and pom squads.

Fans will have the opportunity to interact with the student-athletes in question and answer sessions and instructional sessions, as well as face painting and poster design stations for the basketball game, which will be televised on ESPN2.

National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) is an initiative which celebrates achievement in athletics, healthy living and the positive influence of sports participation. The theme for the 2010 campaign is titled, "Stay Strong, Play On".

NGWSD began in 1987 as a day to remember Olympic volleyball player Flo Hyman for her athletic achievements and her work to assure equality for women's sports. Since that time, NGWSD has evolved into a day of recognition for past and current sports achievements, and the positive influence of sports participation. The national celebration is jointly organized by the National Girls and Women in Sports Coalition.

Tickets to the game are available at the SMU Athletics Ticket Office, by calling 214-768-GAME (4263).
