Brunstrom Reaches Swedish Open Final

July 14, 2008

BASTAD, Sweden (SMU) - Just one week after cracking into the world top 100, former Mustang Johan Brunstrom had another strong week, reaching the doubles final at the ATP's Catella Swedish Open. With the effort, Brunstrom is now ranked 83rd in the world in doubles.

Brunstrom and partner Julien Rojer won three matches en route to the final. The duo opened with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Jasper Smit and Martijn Van Haasteren in the round of 16. The tandem then pulled off an upset of fourth-seeded Tommy Robredo and Fernando Verdasco, 6-2, 6-1, before besting David Ferrer, the world's fifth-ranked singles player, and partner Marc Lopez, 6-3, 6-4, in the semis. Their run would end in the finals, unfortunately, as Jonas Bjorkman and Robin Soderling took home the title with a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
