DALLAS (SMU) - SMU senior goalkeeper T.J. Tomasso (Canton, Mich.) has been selected as the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday. This marks the third time this season that Tomasso has earned MVC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Tomasso posted his sixth shutout of the season (and third straight shutout) Friday vs. Evansville and now totals 24.5 career shutouts - good for fifth on SMU's all-time career list. He needs 3.5 additional shutouts to move in a tie for third. Tomasso has allowed only two goals in seven Missouri Valley Conference games (0.31 GAA) so far this season.

SMU's nominee for this week's MVC Offensive Player of the Week was sophomore Alex Smith (Houston, Texas), who recorded his first career hat trick vs. Tulsa and posts three multi-goal games this season. Smith has scored nine goals in SMU's last six games and tops the team in scoring with 11 goals (nine in MVC play) and three assists with a shooting percentage during league play being 55.6%. He has been named to College Soccer News.com National Team the last two weeks. In last week's NCAA stats, Smith was ranked 12th in the nation in points per game and ninth in the nation in goals per game.
