Dec. 4, 2008
IRVING (SMU/C-USA) - Mustangs Mitch Enright and Pete Fleps have been named to the 2008 Conference USA Football All-Academic Team, the league office announced today. The team consists of three seniors, five juniors, two sophomores, and a redshirt freshman. A student-athlete must have a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and be a starter or key reserve on the football team to be eligible. SMU, Houston, Memphis, Rice and Tulsa landed two student-athletes apiece on the 14 member team, while Marshall, Southern Miss, Tulane and UTEP each had one. Enright, a junior from Southlake, was named to the team after capturing a 3.99 GPA as a management major. Enright is now enrolled in SMU's prestigious Cox School of Business and is pursuing his MBA after graduating with an undergraduate degree in management in just three years. He is a two-time member of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Football Team and a Conference USA Academic Medal winner. He made the Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2006 and 2007 and was a two-year starter and member of the Rimington Trophy Watch List. Sophomore teammate Pete Fleps, also from Southlake, is a marketing major with a 3.54 GPA. He notched 23 tackles in one game at Navy, which ranks as the fourth-most ever in a game by a C-USA player, and led SMU with 106 tackles in 2008. He had four pass breakups, 6.5 tackles for-loss, three sacks and two forced fumbles this past season and was a winner of a 2006 Conference USA Academic Medal and a two-year member of the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
