The SMU Mustangs (3-6) host the UT-San Antonio Roadrunners (5-4) at Moody Coliseum on Monday, Dec. 29 at 7 p.m.. The game completes a home-and-home that started with a 62-56 SMU win in San Antonio last season on Dec. 1. This is the first of of four consecutive home games for SMU, including two straight games against Southland Conference teams as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi comes to Dallas on Dec. 31 for a 2 p.m. game. The Mustangs are 3-2 at home this season.

Paul McCoy: McCoy ranks among the Conference USA leaders early in his freshman season. He is tied for 16th in scoring (127), 4th in FG pct. (53.1), and tied for 3rd in steals (2.00). Among C-USA freshmen, he is 1st in FG Pct., 2nd in scoring (Tyreke Evans, Memphis, 15.4), tied for 2nd in steals (Evans, 2.50; Desmon Wade, Houston, 2.00), and 2nd in minutes at 33.12 (Wade, 33.38). He took C-USA Rookie of the Week for Nov. 17-23 when he averaged 17.0 points, 3.3 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.3 steals with just four total turnovers to make the All-Tournament Team of the SMU Tip-Off Classic.

Bamba Fall: Fall is averaging 2.7 blocks per game with a season-high five at TCU and at Northwestern. Through Dec. 21, that ranked 33rd in the NCAA. He now has 202 blocked shots for his career as he chases Jon Koncak's SMU record of 278. In C-USA, he is 2nd in blocks (2.67), 6th in rebounds (7.4), tied for 5th in offensive rebounds (3.00), and 7th in defensive rebounds (4.44).

THE SERIES (UT-San Antonio): The Mustangs and Roadrunners are meeting for the fourth time with SMU leading 2-1 after a 62-56 win in San Antonio on Dec. 1 of last season. The first two meetings were part of a home-and-home that saw SMU win 88-86 in overtime in Dallas on Jan. 9, 1991; then saw UTSA triumph 80-60 at home on Dec. 30, 1991.

LAST SEASON VS. UT-SAN ANTONIO (W, 62-56 at UTSA 12/1/07): SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Mike Walker scored 13 points and Derrick Roberts added 10, including four key free throws in the final seconds, to lead SMU past Texas-San Antonio 62-56 Saturday. The Mustangs (2-4) broke a 45-45 tie with an 11-1 run capped by a Jon Killen 3-pointer that put them ahead 56-46 with 4:13 remaining. The Roadrunners (4-2) scored six quick points to keep it close and trailed 58-56 after Devin Gibson made two free throws with 39 seconds left. UTSA let the clock run down to 16 seconds before fouling Roberts, who made both free throws. After Melvin Smith missed a 3-pointer for the Roadrunners, Roberts made two more free throws for the final margin. The Roadrunners led 31-25 at halftime despite shooting just 29 percent in the first half. SMU made just three of 11 free throws before halftime but hit 12 of 14 in the second half. Travis Gabbidon of UTSA led all scorers with 15 points, and Keith Spencer had a game-high 12 rebounds. Alex Malone had 12 points for SMU.

LAST GAME (Dec. 23 at Northwestern): EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) -- Michael Thompson and Craig Moore each scored 14 points to lead Northwestern to a 66-55 win over SMU on Tuesday night. Bamba Fall led SMU with 14 points on seven-of-11 shooting. He also had game-highs of nine rebounds and five blocks with a career-best three steals. He became the second SMU player to reach 200 career blocks as he upped his total to 202. At SMU, he trails only Jon Koncak's 278 career blocks. John Shurna added 13 points for Northwestern (8-2), which never trailed in the game. The Wildcats led 28-22 at the half, despite shooting 40 percent from the field. SMU forced 18 turnovers by Northwestern, which only averages 11.8 per game. The Mustangs scored 21 points off the miscues. SMU (3-6) also struggled with turnovers, allowing Northwestern to score 22 points off the errors. The Mustangs also got 12 points from Robert Nyakundi, which hit all four of his three-point shots. Alex Malone added nine points in just 10 minutes, all in the second half. The Wildcats pulled away early in the second half and put the game out of reach. Moore's 3-pointer at the 17:15 mark pushed Northwestern's lead to 38-27.

UP NEXT: The Mustangs will play host to a second straight Southland Conference team as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi visits at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31. The Mustangs' first game of 2009 is against Colorado at Moody Coliseum on Jan. 5 at 7 p.m.

HEAD COACH Matt Doherty...is in his eighth season as a head coach and his third season at SMU. This is his 18th season in collegiate coaching with eight NCAA Tournaments, seven conference titles, a Final Four appearance and the 2001 AP National Coach of the Year award. He also has 22 players that have gone to the NBA. He has a 117-114 record including a 27-43 mark on the Hilltop.

CREATING SOME BUZZ: Head Coach Matt Doherty allowed the team to give him a "buzz cut" with a set of clippers at a No. 2 setting after losing a motivating wager with his players. He told Mouhammad Faye, Bamba Fall, and Alex Malone that if they all received a B or better on their final paper from the Africa trip over the summer, he would let them cut his hair. It was done at the flag pole in the center of campus on the Thursday afternoon (nov. 20) before the home-opener.

TV - METRO SPORTS TEXAS: SMU, CBS College Sports Network, and Metro Sports Texas have reached an agreement to televise 13 remaining SMU men's basketball games this season on Time-Warner Cable in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Waco, Austin, and San Antonio markets. The first live telecast is Friday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. when SMU hosts Texas A&M - International. In addition to four games on CBS College Sports Network, 18 of the remaining 25 regular-season contests will be televised.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: SMU freshman Paul McCoy was named Conference USA Rookie of the Week on Nov. 24 after his performance in the three games of the SMU Tip-Off Classic. McCoy averaged 17.0 points, 3.3 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.3 steals with just four total turnovers to make the All-Tournament Team of the SMU Tip-Off Classic. For the weekend, he shot 69 percent (20-29) from the field and 4-of-8 from three-point range. He scored team-highs of 18 points against Alabama State and 22 points against Illinois State, hitting 8-of-11 from the field in both contests. This is his first C-USA Rookie of the Week nod.

BLOCK PARTY: In 2007-08, Bamba averaged 2.1 blocks to finish second in Conference USA. In 2006-07, Bamba Fall's 2.48 blocks per game led Conference USA and ranked 19th in the NCAA. His 62 blocks set the SMU sophomore record, passing Jon Koncak's mark of 54 blocks in 1982-83. In 2005-06, Fall set the SMU freshman record with 53 blocks in just 18 games. (Passed the previous record of 43 by Ira Terrell in 1972-73). He also led C-USA with 3.36 per league contest.
