The 12-day journey to Africa included four days in Senegal and five days in South Africa. Excerpts from player and staff journals as well as photos from this once-in-a-lifetime experience are available at http://smumustangs.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/08-mbb-africa-trip.html.
The squad spent four full days in Senegal, spending time in Dakar and St. Louis. The team visited the families of teammates Bamba Fall, Papa Dia, and Mouhammad Faye. Fall and Dia are from St. Louis and Faye is from Dakar. The squad also faced the Senegalese National Team and did a basketball clinic at SEEDS Academy. While in Senegal, the group also toured Goree Island and Pink Lake and visited multiple market places.
Then it was five days in South Africa. The team played two more games between visits to the vast array of cultural and historical areas in and around Johannesburg. The squad tour Soweto and the memorials to the struggle against apartheid, visited Lesedi Cultural Village for traditional tribal lifestyles that included dancing and music, and went on a safari at Pilanesburg National Park.
