“Koncak Returns to Moody”

Jon Koncak returned to the arena where he became an All-American and helped SMU to a # 2 national ranking. Jon offered to come back and practice with our team and at 45 years old, he is in tremendous shape. He participated in our big man drills, 2-on-2 pick-n-roll drills and our zone offense. You can see why he was so successful – he can catch, pass and shoot the ball. Jon has a great understanding of the game and our players certainly benefited from his participation in practice.

Friday, we invited the professors to attend practice. We had a nice turnout. I like for our professors to see what our young men go through in a college practice – the hard work, discipline and attention to detail. I want my practices to be a great teaching environment, just like our professors do. It was nice to visit with the professors and get a sense of what our players are like in some of their classes.

Saturday, we had a great tailgate before the Tulane football game. The highlight was when the alumni band came over to our tent and played for the team. I was the band director for a song!!! It was a fun time. I love the band and I am grateful for the alumni to stay involved as the band is a big part of college basketball!

That morning, Donatas Rackauskas stopped by practice and then he attended our tailgate. He will always show up for a free meal!!!! Donatas is working for KPMG, one of the top accounting firms in Dallas. I miss his sense of humor along with his sweet jump shot!

Also on Saturday, we had about 70 local high school coaches show up for a coach’s clinic. It was great to have them out to see our team practice. We wish them all good luck with their seasons.
