Joe Danos is in his first season as an Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach at SMU, having come to the Hilltop in early 2007. Danos is a graduate of LSU, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology. Danos worked under LSU Head Strength & Conditioning Coach Tom Moffitt for two football seasons as assistant coach and previously worked as a volunteer assistant strength coach for the Tigers. Danos also worked for five years as an assistant weightlifting coach to Gayle Hatch, the 2004 USA Head Olympic Coach. Before serving as Hatch's assistant, Danos competed at a national level for the Gayle Hatch Weightlifting Team of Baton Rouge. His accomplishments included a 1996 National Junior Championship and a 1996 AAU Junior Olympic Championship. Danos posses an extensive knowledge of Olympic lifts and the training methods of elite Olympic lifters, and how these training methods can be adapted and applied to student-athletes. Danos is a member of USA Weightlifting, the National Governing Body (NGB) for Olympic weightlifting in the United States, and is also a USA Weightlifting-certified weightlifting coach.
